I am a research mathematician with specialties in numerical linear algebra, optimization, and computational physics. I work at Systems and Technology Research in Woburn, Massachusetts where I use tools from numerical linear algebra to solve challenging national security problems and actively develop new theories and algorithms for the numerical linear algebra community. My PhD thesis (Purdue University, 2018, supervised by Jianlin Xia and Ragu Balakrishnan) was a comprehensive look at eigenvalue algorithms and optimization routines that utilize hierarchically structured matrices. This research program is still in progress, as there is much work still to be done in this area of applied math. I am always looking for collaborators. Feel free to contact me if you have any interesting problems you would like to look at together.

When I am not working on my research, I love playing/watching sports (especially soccer, basketball, and table tennis), playing my clarinet, and eating chocolate cake. I was born in San Diego, California, USA, but spent the majority of my childhood in St. Paul, Minnesota, USA. I went to graduate school at Purdue University in Indiana, where in addition to learning entirely too much math I also met the love of my life; Melissa James (my wife as of 2018). Melissa and I live together in Everett, Massachusetts (greater Boston area) with our stuffed animals and our Hulu subscription. Melissa works as a Technical Recruiter for the artificial intelligence company BigR.io in Boston. Before attending Purdue, I received a BS in Physics from the University of Michigan. I am sorry to say that I am as proud and obnoxious of a fan of Michigan’s sports teams and academic rankings as any of their (proud and obnoxious) alumni.
